Arsi University-Ethiopia, UMBC-USA and Brock University-Canada Partnership

On April 24, 2019 President of Arsi University, Ethiopia, Dr. Duguma A Debele and President of University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), USA, Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski had fruitful discussion on a number of future partnership modalities through joint research and capacity building in activities mainly in the areas of Mathematics and Statistics. Dr. Duguma A Debele has also briefed about the progress of the upcoming 6th African International Conference (AIC) on Statistics which is being jointly co-organized by Arsi University and UMBC to be held in Ethiopia from May 27 to 30, 2019. As part of this 6th AIC which will be hosted by Arsi University, Prof. Bimal Sinha, who is one of the founding father of Statistics program at UMBC has also discussed with Dr. Duguma and agreed to lead a team of experts from USA to share expertise and co-organize one parallel session focusing on statistical issues related to large scale population counting, census. During this session, a number of census related issues will be presented and discussed by senior Professors from universities in US.

On the same day, Dr. Duguma A Debele had also a very inspiring discussion with the President and Vice-chancellor of Brock University, Canada, Dr. Gervan Fearon and dean of Faculty of Math and Science, Dr. Syed Ejaz Ahmed. Accordingly, the two universities have agreed to collaborate in the areas of data science, big data management, value chain management, viticulture, teachers education and agribusiness and governance.
